PACIFIC MARKETING ASSOCIATES
A new web presence for an industry leader in urban property marketing and sales.
- description2: To provide PMA with a powerful platform for engaging their audience and fostering dialog, we designed an elegant site to house dynamic content, optimize multimedia and publish in-house market research to underscore the firm’s domain expertise. We developed new copy to tell their story, and created a message-driven homepage animation. Launch site.
Millennium Cities Initiative
As part of Columbia University’s Earth Institute, MCI is committed to improving the quality of life for millions of Africa’s urban residents by helping them create sustainable cities.
- description2: MCI wanted a strong fundraising tool to articulate their approach. Working with writerNancy Deyo, Melanie Doherty Design developed a video presentation in two parts. The first depicts the severe poverty faced by many urban Africans, while the second spotlights accomplishments made thus far in the global movement to eradicate poverty. Ever hopeful about Africa’s bright future, we’re glad to be an MCI partner.
WomensTrust.org
With microfinance at the heart of its activities, WomensTrust is a model for bringing resources and community-based support directly to the developing world.
- description2: We collaborated with founder Dana Dakin years ago when she worked as a successful marketing consultant to leading investment entities. When Dana turned sixty, she flew to Ghana and started WomensTrust. Her enthusiasm for her work is contagious, so we joined forces to completely overhaul the WomensTrust website. Designed to be a powerful fundraising tool, the site features tiered donation opportunities, a multi-media section with videos and slideshows, links to resources, and “From the Field” regularly updated blog posts. Visit womenstrust.org or view the annual report we designed for WomensTrust.
UNWOMEN.ORG
Through an invigorating collaboration with UN Women’s in house IT team, working against the clock, we designed and developed their web site in four weeks to meet the official opening date.
- description2: We lead a day-long workshop with the four UN organizations that have merged to create UN Women, generating a site architecture to meld their diverse hierarchical systems. The new site is a powerful media and resource channel, delivering current news and multimedia content to individuals, human rights organizations and member states, while at the same time increasing awareness of UN Women’s initiatives and focus areas. Launch site.

A Shared Calling
Franciscan Estate has long enjoyed a reputation as a top Napa Valley luxury brand. The company came to Melanie Doherty Design because we share a devotion to craft.
- description2: To re-introduce this trusted brand to a new generation, we developed a vibrant library of winery, vineyard and lifestyle images with photographer Susie Cushner. We crafted a rich brochure design, using embossing and foil stamp to express the meticulous attention to detail evident in Franciscan wines. We worked with writer Carol Miller to reenergize the brand story, using the theme of numbers to highlight top selling points and evoke the experience of hand-crafting fine wine in small lots.
National Geographic Books
Working with this venerable institution gives us the opportunity for the ultimate in arm chair travel—even when we’re tethered to our computers.
- description2: And sometimes we get to hit the road, too. Design projects for National Geographic have taken us to London to work with photographers Angela Beckwith and Carol Fisher, and to NGS headquarters in DC for days spent sifting through the society’s awesome photo archives. Book design projects are a labor of love for us; we’ve concepted and produced our own titles as well as acting as book designers. In addition to NGS, we’ve worked with leading publishers Chronicle Books, Rizzoli and Doubletake.
Chefs
Branding across markets for professional and home chefs.
- description2: For Chefs, a leading professional kitchenware e-retailer, our objective was to design a brand line that would communicate the no-nonsense quality of a professional kitchen, and still appeal to the home culinary wizard. Given that the products would be sold online and in catalogs, not in stores, we designed strong, graphic packaging to communicate well in photographs and digital media.
RUNAWAY BRIDAL SUCCESS
Gump’s, San Francisco’s legendary luxury goods purveyor for generations, has been the gift registry of choice for sophisticated northern California couples.
- description2: To promote the annual bridal event, we conceived a modern romantic look for the collateral, which included invitations, advertisements, e-vites and posters. The visual appeal proved highly successful, garnering record attendance.
California Dreaming
After 20 years using the same print collateral, it was time to update Woodside Hotels’ brand, while still maintaining their core identity.
- description2: We refreshed the logo series with a new typographic treatment and redesigned the brochures, rack cards, spa menus and conference materials for each property. Working with established color schemes, we created contemporary patterns for each property’s geographic character, and introduced iconic black and white photography to capture California’s timeless beauty.
