RoomToRead.org
Room to Read’s mission is to change the world by educating children. One of our missions is to create a powerful website to help them achieve their goal.
- description2: The key is to engage visitors immediately, entice them to explore and learn, and persuade them to get involved. Using a fun and friendly magazine style, we’re building a site that reflects Room to Read’s innovative, make-it-happen culture. We’ve organized content into impactful messages and crafted information graphics that are particularly well-suited for Web reading. Videos, slide shows, carousels, and calls to action are integrated throughout. The site is currently under construction—stay tuned!

Up to the Task
For their first print campaign, we developed headline messages to express the enormity of the tasks facing UN Women—and the enthusiasm the new organization has for tackling them.
- description2: We are continually impressed by the boundless energy and know how of our clients at UN Women, so this concept almost wrote itself. The printed pieces serve to herald UN Women’s mission to the world, using convincing statistics, supporters’ voices and photojournalism depicting focus areas and regions of operation.

Millennium Cities Initiative
As part of Columbia University’s Earth Institute, MCI is committed to improving the quality of life for millions of Africa’s urban residents by helping them create sustainable cities.
- description2: MCI wanted a strong fundraising tool to articulate their approach. Working with writerNancy Deyo, Melanie Doherty Design developed a video presentation in two parts. The first depicts the severe poverty faced by many urban Africans, while the second spotlights accomplishments made thus far in the global movement to eradicate poverty. Ever hopeful about Africa’s bright future, we’re glad to be an MCI partner.
WomensTrust.org
With microfinance at the heart of its activities, WomensTrust is a model for bringing resources and community-based support directly to the developing world.
- description2: We collaborated with founder Dana Dakin years ago when she worked as a successful marketing consultant to leading investment entities. When Dana turned sixty, she flew to Ghana and started WomensTrust. Her enthusiasm for her work is contagious, so we joined forces to completely overhaul the WomensTrust website. Designed to be a powerful fundraising tool, the site features tiered donation opportunities, a multi-media section with videos and slideshows, links to resources, and “From the Field” regularly updated blog posts. Visit womenstrust.org or view the annual report we designed for WomensTrust.
UNWOMEN.ORG
Through an invigorating collaboration with UN Women’s in house IT team, working against the clock, we designed and developed their web site in four weeks to meet the official opening date.
- description2: We lead a day-long workshop with the four UN organizations that have merged to create UN Women, generating a site architecture to meld their diverse hierarchical systems. The new site is a powerful media and resource channel, delivering current news and multimedia content to individuals, human rights organizations and member states, while at the same time increasing awareness of UN Women’s initiatives and focus areas. Launch site.

Born Into Brothels
We were so moved by this Academy Award-winning documentary about children in the red light district of Calcutta that we contacted Director Zana Briski to see how we could get involved.
- description2: We were asked to design the film’s companion book to support the work of Kids With Cameras, the nonprofit organization Zana created to further the children’s education. We brought in writer Carol Miller to tell the personal stories of each of the seven children featured in the film, and designed the coffee table book around their compelling photographic portfolios. Investing In Women
One of our first assignments for the Global Fund for Women was to conceive the design and concept for the Legacy Fund Campaign, which raised $20 million to establish the world’s largest women’s endowment fund.
- description2: When we began working with GFW, the organization was at a transitional point in its development, evolving from a small non-profit to a leading international women’s human rights network. Today, GFW has awarded over $80 million to 4,200 women’s organizations in 171 countries worldwide.
