St. Supéry Vineyards & Winery
In our 20-year partnership with St. Supéry, we’ve developed an enduring wine brand that only improves with age.
- description2: Melanie Doherty Design has managed every aspect of the brand: identity system, print collateral, website, naming, signage and packaging for four families of wine, producing nearly 50 award-winning varietal labels.
Design Within Reach
Founder Rob Forbes had the paradigm-shifting idea of providing modern designer furniture directly to the consumer, without the mediation of an architect or dealer.
- description2: DWR works across the three retail channels of bricks-and-mortar, internet and direct mail; the company came to us to design their catalogs and print collateral. Managing all aspects of the process—from art direction to photography, design to production—and being a part of the team that helped grow this company in its early years was both educational and exciting.
Heaven on the Web
A gallery of saints awaits you at the gates of St. Supery’s virtual home.
- description2: We used divine illustrations commissioned over the course of 15 years for St. Supery’s Meritage labels to set an artful tone with the site, and to serve as an ethereal counterpoint to the functionality of the customized e-commerce wine shop. Launch site.
PACIFIC MARKETING ASSOCIATES
A new web presence for an industry leader in urban property marketing and sales.
- description2: To provide PMA with a powerful platform for engaging their audience and fostering dialog, we designed an elegant site to house dynamic content, optimize multimedia and publish in-house market research to underscore the firm’s domain expertise. We developed new copy to tell their story, and created a message-driven homepage animation. Launch site.
Napa Valley Wine Auction
To create the identity for the 18th Annual Napa Valley Wine Auction, a four day food and wine extravaganza for charity, we started by creating the theme: Divine Metamorphosis.
- description2: The concept of transformation informed our four Napa Valley vignettes: the formation of the valley, the ritual of fermenting grapes into wine, the culinary alchemy of raw ingredients into California cuisine and the transformation of the spirit through celebration. We collaborated with artist Christian Clayton to depict each sequence, and produced invitations, posters, guides, catalogs, tickets, passes, wine labels, auction paddles and event signage.
A Shared Calling
Franciscan Estate has long enjoyed a reputation as a top Napa Valley luxury brand. The company came to Melanie Doherty Design because we share a devotion to craft.
- description2: To re-introduce this trusted brand to a new generation, we developed a vibrant library of winery, vineyard and lifestyle images with photographer Susie Cushner. We crafted a rich brochure design, using embossing and foil stamp to express the meticulous attention to detail evident in Franciscan wines. We worked with writer Carol Miller to reenergize the brand story, using the theme of numbers to highlight top selling points and evoke the experience of hand-crafting fine wine in small lots.
National Geographic Books
Working with this venerable institution gives us the opportunity for the ultimate in arm chair travel—even when we’re tethered to our computers.
- description2: And sometimes we get to hit the road, too. Design projects for National Geographic have taken us to London to work with photographers Angela Beckwith and Carol Fisher, and to NGS headquarters in DC for days spent sifting through the society’s awesome photo archives. Book design projects are a labor of love for us; we’ve concepted and produced our own titles as well as acting as book designers. In addition to NGS, we’ve worked with leading publishers Chronicle Books, Rizzoli and Doubletake.
Chefs
Branding across markets for professional and home chefs.
- description2: For Chefs, a leading professional kitchenware e-retailer, our objective was to design a brand line that would communicate the no-nonsense quality of a professional kitchen, and still appeal to the home culinary wizard. Given that the products would be sold online and in catalogs, not in stores, we designed strong, graphic packaging to communicate well in photographs and digital media.
RUNAWAY BRIDAL SUCCESS
Gump’s, San Francisco’s legendary luxury goods purveyor for generations, has been the gift registry of choice for sophisticated northern California couples.
- description2: To promote the annual bridal event, we conceived a modern romantic look for the collateral, which included invitations, advertisements, e-vites and posters. The visual appeal proved highly successful, garnering record attendance.
